About Growlab

Our vision is to maximise food crop potential - through the most sustainable, innovative, and beneficial use of our world’s resources.

What has Growlab set out to do?

Growlab exists to bridge gaps and empower innovation. We are passionate about New Zealand’s primary producers and growers and passionate about supporting the strategic and sustainable growth of the industry. With a deep understanding of plant biological and production systems, we aim to translate plant physiology into value along the supply chain—from the orchard and back again.

Maximising and retaining produce potential is the ultimate goal, but in an industry where the only constant is change, being able to make informed business decisions with confidence is key.

Growlab is changing the agri-business game, and leading the way in a new kind of consultancy. We’re a mobile R&D unit that partners closely with growers and suppliers.

We help them capture their digital opportunities, improve their systems, and maximise their potential.

With a deep understanding of every part of the supply chain, Growlab can give agri- businesses the kind of oversight they never knew they could have. So, instead of feeling at the mercy of the seasons, conditions, and markets, they’ll feel empowered to get their business where it needs to grow.

David is a plant geek

Nicci is a sixth generation farm girl from Southland. With parents in the sheep farming industry, she directly felt the impacts of decreasing global wool prices and increasing dairy conversion on New Zealand’s sheep farmers in the '80s and '90s and has a strong level of empathy for our primary producers. Nicci brings to the Growlab team strong strategic acumen, excellent management of complex projects, and a proven ability to create and support enduring collaborations. With a PhD in cancer genetics, multiple national and international collaborations under her belt, and an MBA in the works, Nicci has a knack for seeing the big picture and understanding what pieces are needed to make things work. Nicci is adept at making sense of all the noise, in both a scientific and strategic sense. Never afraid to try doing something differently, Nicci encourages new ways of thinking and doing. She also loves working with others and strongly advocates for collaboration and co-creation in the way we innovate and do business.

Nicci holds a Bachelor of Science with first class honours and a PhD in Cancer Genetics from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. She is currently undertaking an MBA at the University of Waikato.

Intro to the values of Growlab. Some filler text to go in here just to pad it out a a bit but there doesn't need to be much.

Pathfinding.

We use all sources of information (research, data, stakeholder knowledge and experience) to hone in on the crux of challenges and opportunities and synthesise the pathways forward. We aim to understand why before how, to stay curious, to listen and observe, to ask the hard questions, and to explore with grit, patience, and passion to lead from the edge forging new ground and new ideas.

Perspective

We know our ‘stuff’, we think big and look long, and we see the potential to level- up our horticulture activities in NZ. We bring a wealth of experience to the table from plant breeding, pathology, and physiology, medical research, horticulture commercialisation, premium fruit exports, academia, and innovation that culminates in a hardcore R&D ability with a broad perspective on how to get the job done - and how to do better.

Grounded

We put on our boots and roll up our sleeves, working alongside food crop stakeholders in the orchard, the warehouse, the lab, and the office. We value stakeholder knowledge and hard research, weaving these together to grow business and the sector.

As a small team we share the same values and these are important to us when working with you.
